Russia
Today we learned about Russian food (another classified as "peasant food"). I had never really eaten any Russian food, but have always been interested. I did the Blini (Buckwheat pancakes) and the Fritter. The Blinis turned out good except that they didn't rise much. This was due to some old yeast (I tried 4 times to get some activity out of my yeast but to no avail). They were still delicious nonetheless.
But what really was awesome (as usual) was the dessert! The Fritters were made from cottage cheese, made into a sort of dough, rolled out into logs, and cut into little pieces to pan fry. So. Good. My flame might have been a tad high because the pieces were a little more than golden brown, but I will have to watch that next time. The taste was great, however, though one classmate of mine made perfect ones. I think I'll ask her what she did differently. This is definitely a dish that I'll be making at home in the near future!
